The Spirit of the Stained Glass House

Here's another jewel from our recent vacation - Stained Glass Manor in Vicksburg, Mississippi.

The Stained Glass Manor was built between 1902 and 1908 by Fannie Vick Willis Johnson (The "Vick" in her name is because she is a descendant of the city's namesake). It was designed by George Washington Maher, Frank Lloyd Wright's teacher; the house looks as if Wright might have done it himself. Thirty-six original stained glass panels adorn the house, and gives it the unique name. The following ghost stories come from Shirley, the lady of the house.

Some believe that Fannie may be coming back to visit. Several people have seen a lady standing in Fannie's bedroom, and even out on the front lawn. The current owner believes that when Fannie died she carried with her a terrible secret - that she had helped a friend of hers suffocate a crippled or retarded child up in the attic, out of the misguided notion that they were doing the young boy a favor since he could not take care of himself.

In the attic loft, many people have reported seeing a young man who was impaired in some way. A young boy told his parents that he had been playing with a young boy up in the attic, and still another took his parents up the stairs because he had been locked out of the attic where they were staying. As the family stood at the door trying to figure out what to do, it unlocked and opened from the inside. The parents were shocked, but the boy told his folks that it had been opened by the crippled boy inside.

Poll Results!

First of all, I'd like to say a special thanks to everyone who responded to last night's request for help with a charitable cause. I really appreciate all those who bought a Lions Club cookbook to support the Lions of District 2-X2 and their charitable endeavors. We still have a few left if anyone wants one (http://www.jeffersonlionsclub.org/cookbook/ for info).

But on to more ghostly matters! The latest poll asked the question, "When ghost-hunting, I use...", and here are the answers:

One fourth of you - 25% - said, "Three or more different types of equipment." Only eight percent said, "Two different types of equipment," and seventeen percent said, "Only one piece of equipment." The largest percentage, one half of everyone responding, said, "nothing - I don't use equipment at all."

Extremely interesting! So the vast majority of folks answering the poll said that either they use nothing, or more than three different types of equipment. It just goes to show you the diversity in ghost-hunting, and the wide range of techniques that are used in our field.

Thanks to everyone who participated - don't forget to check out the latest poll!

Let me digress for a second...

Okay, I have a personal indulgence to ask of you, and I appreciate you giving me a second. I’ve been very careful about not using ghost-blog.com to do any high-pressureselling or anything like that. While I try to mention a new book of mine whenever it’s coming out, or recommend books or places that I've enjoyed, I want to keep this forum as a place for sharing supernatural experiences and information.

If you could grant me a moment for a worty cause, please follow this link, and help out if you can...

Thanks - I truly appreciate it. Now back to the ghost stuff!!!

I'm baaaaaaccck!

Sorry to be away from the blog for so long, but I was doing a little ghost-hunting in Louisiana and Mississippi. I thought that in this day and age I'd have internet access almost everywhere that I went, but alas, that just wasn't the case. I did find some great haunted places, though.

One of our stops was at the Myrtles Plantation, which has been the subject of many ghost-hunting TV shows and books. It's truly a beautiful place, and the manager that we spoke with gave us many first-hand stories. For example, she says that many ladies discover that one of their earrings is missing after the tour, and it will usually show back up in the house days, weeks, or even months later. The disappearances are blamed on Chloe, The Myrtles' famous one-eared slave who was hung for poisoning the family children.

The manager also told us that she is the one who locks the main house at night, then unlocks it in the morning. Frequently she'll find the furniture moved around, especially in the ladies' and gentlemen's parlors.

We didn't experience any supernatural activity while we were there, but we did have an incredible meal at the restaurant there. I highly recommend the BBQ, but the star of the meal was their green beans!

On a little vacation...

Thanks for reading the Ghost-Blog! I'm going to be off on a little vacation for another week. I had hoped that I'd be able to find Internet connections everywhere so that I could keep the blog going while on the road, but either I don't have the right card in my laptop, or I don't have a modem, or any number of other things that keep preventing me from logging on. I'll be back in about another week, so please bookmark the page and keep checking in!

Thanks for reading!

Got some time on your hands?

Next time you don't have anything better to do, try pointing your web browser to the following website:

http://www.researchwebcam.com/

You can watch live webcams that have been placed in an old, abandoned hospital that supposedly has some paranormal activity. It doesn't get any better than that... you can ghost-hunt from the comfort of your own couch!

By the way, have a great 666 tomorrow!!!

I have a real doozy for you today!

Wow - it's not often that I can spend half an hour on a website, and still not know exactly what that website is all about. Today, I'd like to offer up a site that I tripped across in my web wanderings called, "Coffee Pot Ghost". Explore, enjoy, and maybe you can figure it out!

A Haunted Restaurant in Morristown

While surfing the net, I ran across an extremely interesting article on a haunted restaurant in Morristown, NJ. It has a lot of detail, and for anyone interested in hauntings, is a fascinating read. Check it out at:
